55: Tell Him I Said "Thank You"

Dear M,
While I was sifting through the nasty comments your “friends” have been sending me, I came across a note that stopped me in my tracks.  And I’ll even go a step further and say it made me smile. This particular letter was not childish, it was not disgusting, nor was it rude. In fact it was quite nice, and I look forward to thanking the author in person the next time I see him.
I will thank him for several things including his honesty and the friendship he has shown you. He is obviously a young man of good character whose life experiences have taught him how to rise above difficult times. Now, we may not see eye to eye when it comes to dealing with teenage rebelliousness and family conflicts, but I do appreciate his insight.

You are a smart kid, M, and you absolutely have the ability to do great things in your life. But it’s going to take a lot of determination and discipline to get there. We are doing everything in our power to help you realize your potential, but so much of this is in your hands.

I love you,
Mom
PS – Please tell your friend that I said, “Thank you.”
